What Does the Bible Say About Intercession?

“And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?”

“And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”

“And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.”

“And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”

“And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.”

“Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. Zoar: that is, Little”

“Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.”

“And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.”

“Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.”

“And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh.”

“And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.”

“But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.”

“And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.”

“And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.”

“Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.”

“And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt. cast: Heb. fastened”

“And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. even: Heb. that one may feel darkness”

“Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.”

“And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.”

“And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually.”

“And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.”

“And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD.”

“And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:”

“Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.”

“And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? the LORD: Heb. the face of the LORD”

“Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.”

“Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.”

“And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.”

“And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.”

“Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.”

“And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.”

“And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.”

“Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,”

“The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:”

“The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:”

“The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

“And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.”

“And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the many thousands of Israel. many thousands: Heb. ten thousand thousands”

“And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. complained: or, were as it were complainers it displeased: Heb. it was evil in the ears of”

“And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. was: Heb. sunk”

“And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.”

“And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?”

“I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.”

“Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,”

“Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.”

“And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,”

“The LORD is longsuffering , and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.”

“Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. until: or, hitherto”

“And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:”

“And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,”

“And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.”

“And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.”

“And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.”

“Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.”

“And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.”

“And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. discouraged: or, grieved: Heb. shortened”

“Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.”

“Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.”

“And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee. first: or, former days”

“Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few.”

“And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!”

“And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.”

“Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.”

“And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.”
