Commentary

Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers
(22) **The people.**—Better, *the multitude.* It is the same word which in John 6:5 is rendered “company.” **On the other side of the sea**—i.e., on the eastern side. The writer’s starting-point is now Capernaum. In John 6:25 the same words mean the western side, the starting-point of the multitude being the scene of the miracle. **Save that one whereinto his disciples were entered.**—Better, *save one,* with the best MSS. The addition has arisen from an explanatory gloss.
