They could not take hold of his words before the people (οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἐπιλαβέσθαι αὐτοῦ ῥήματος, ouk ischysan epilabesthai autou rhēmatos)—the verb ἐπιλαμβάνομαι (epilambanomai) means to seize, catch, or arrest.
