For he that is dead is freed from sin—ho gar apothanōn dedikaiōtai apo tēs hamartias (ὁ γὰρ ἀποθανὼν δεδικαίωται ἀπὸ τῆς ἁμαρτίας). The perfect passive dedikaiōtai (has been justified/freed) is forensic language: death cancels all legal claims.
