Now why dost thou cry out aloud? is there no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? (עַתָּה לָמָּה תָרִיעִי רֵעַ הֲמֶלֶךְ אֵין בָּךְ אִם־יוֹעֲצֵךְ אָבָד, attah lammah tari'i rea hamelekh ein bakh im-yo'atsekh avad). The prophet shifts from glorious future (v. 1-8) to present crisis. רוּעַ (rua, cry out/wail) indicates alarm and anguish. The rhetorical questions probe: where is your מֶלֶךְ (melekh, king)?
