But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew (וְכַאֲשֶׁר יְעַנּוּ אֹתוֹ כֵּן יִרְבֶּה וְכֵן יִפְרֹץ, vekha'asher ye'anu oto ken yirbeh vekhen yifrots)—The Hebrew structure creates emphatic contrast: "the more... the more."
