The word lifted up their voices (ἐπῆραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν) describes collective shouting, mob hysteria replacing reasoned listening. Away with such a fellow from the earth (Αἶρε ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τὸν τοιοῦτον) echoes the cry against Jesus: 'Away with him, crucify him' (Luke 23:18, John 19:15).
