If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me—David explores a third hypothetical escape: concealment in darkness (choshek, חֹשֶׁךְ). Cover me (shuf, שׁוּף) means to overwhelm or crush—darkness as refuge from exposure.
