'And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.' Immediately (εὐθέως/eutheōs) after feeding 5000, Jesus 'constrained' (ἠνάγκασεν/ēnagkasen, compelled, urged strongly) disciples to leave by boat. John explains why: crowd wanted to make Jesus king by force (John 6:15)—misinterpreting the miracle as political sign. Jesus needed to dispel messianic fervor while dismissing crowds.
