If heaven above can be measured (אִם־יִמַּדּוּ שָׁמַיִם מִלְמַעְלָה)—God stakes Israel's security on physical impossibilities. The verb madad (מָדַד, to measure) appears in creation contexts—God 'measured' the waters in His hand (Isaiah 40:12).
