For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. The prepositional phrase egō gar dia nomou nomō apethanon (ἐγὼ γὰρ διὰ νόμου νόμῳ ἀπέθανον, "I through law to law died") contains profound paradox—the law itself became the instrument (dia nomou) of Paul's death to the law (nomō apethanon).
