Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword (וַיַּכּוּ הַיְּהוּדִים בְּכָל־אֹיְבֵיהֶם מַכַּת־חֶרֶב)—The Hebrew makkāt-ḥereb ('stroke of the sword') describes decisive military action.
