Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh—the Hebrew ʿal ʾăšer maʿăltem bî (עַל אֲשֶׁר מְעַלְתֶּם בִּי, 'because you acted unfaithfully against Me') uses the root māʿal, meaning breach of trust or treachery.
