What Does 2 Chronicles 1:15 Mean?

“And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance. made: Heb. gave”

Context

Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.

And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers

(15) **Silver and gold . . . stones . . . cedar trees.**—Each of these words has the definite article in the Hebrew. **And gold.**—Not in 1Kings 10:27, with which the rest of the verse coincides; nor in 2Chronicles 9:27. The Syriac omits it here also, but the other versions have it, and the phrase is a natural heightening of the hyperbole. **The sycomore trees that are in the** **vale.**—(Comp. 1Chronicles 27:28.) The Syriac reads instead. “As the sand which is on the seashore.”
