So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. The conclusion So we (οὕτως οἱ πολλοί, houtōs hoi polloi, 'thus we the many') applies the body analogy to the church. The phrase one body in Christ (ἓν σῶμα ἐσμεν ἐν Χριστῷ, hen sōma esmen en Christō) is crucial: our unity isn't based on shared ethnicity, social class, or preferences, but on mystical union with Christ.
