For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. This verse describes consuming passion for God's honor and suffering that results from that passion. 'Zeal' (qin'at, קִנְאַת) means jealous devotion, burning passion—the same word describes God's jealousy for His people (Exodus 20:5).
