Jesus declares 'He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me' (ho echon tas entolas mou kai teron autas ekeinos estin ho agapon me). Having and keeping commandments evidences genuine love. The present participles echon (having) and teron (keeping) indicate ongoing possession and practice.
