They proclaimed a fast before the LORD (קָרְאוּ־צוֹם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה, qar'u-tzom lifnei YHWH)—A national fast suggested crisis, likely fear of Babylonian invasion after Nebuchadnezzar's recent victories.
