Restoration promised: 'And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.' After judgment (vv. 2-13), hope emerges. 'From thence' (the wilderness, v. 14) means from the place of discipline comes restoration. Vineyards destroyed (v. 12) will be regiven—not earned but graciously restored. 'Valley of Achor' (trouble/disturbance) recalls Achan's judgment (Joshua 7:24-26), yet becomes 'door of hope' (petach tiqvah). Trouble transformed into hope...
