Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water—Even in common meals, blood remains sacred: The life of the flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11). The prohibition to pour it upon the ground returns life symbolically to God—acknowledging Him as life's source and owner.
