Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?—The third contrast completes Jesus's trilogy of absurd substitutions: egg for scorpion. A scorpion (σκορπίον, skorpion) when coiled resembles a pale egg, yet delivers venomous sting instead of nourishment.
