The people the men of Israel encouraged themselves (וַיִּתְחַזֵּק הָעָם אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל, vayithchazeq ha'am ish yisra'el)—'encouraged' (חָזַק, chazaq) means to strengthen, bolster courage.
