Abraham is our father—They reassert biological descent (σπέρμα Ἀβραάμ/sperma Abraam, v.33, 37) as guarantee of covenant status. In Jewish theology, Abraham's merit (זְכוּת אָבוֹת/zekhut avot, 'merit of the fathers') provided spiritual covering for his descendants.
