And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake: Even Moses, God's chosen mediator who knew Him face to face (Exodus 33:11; Deuteronomy 34:10), was terrified by Sinai's theophany. 'So terrible was the sight' (phoberon ēn to phantazomenon, φοβερὸν ἦν τὸ φαντα ζόμενον, 'fearful was the appearance') produced Moses' confession: 'I exceedingly fear and quake' (ekphobos eimi kai entromos, ἔκφοβός εἰμι καὶ ἔντρομος).
