The Story

A large crowd followed and pressed around Jesus. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.

When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, 'If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.' Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, 'Who touched my clothes?'

'You see the people crowding against you,' his disciples answered, 'and yet you can ask, "Who touched me?"'

But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.

He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.'

For twelve years this woman had suffered—physically, financially, socially, and spiritually. Her condition made her ritually unclean; she couldn't worship at the temple or touch anyone without making them unclean too. She was isolated, hopeless, and desperate.

But she had faith. She believed that just touching Jesus' clothes would be enough. And it was. Jesus felt her faith amid the jostling crowd and stopped to honor her publicly, calling her 'Daughter'—restoring not just her body but her dignity.

The Woman Who Touched Jesus' Coat

Kids Version

There was a woman who had been very sick for TWELVE YEARS. She had a problem with bleeding that wouldn't stop. She had spent ALL her money on doctors, but nothing helped. She only got worse.

Because of her sickness, she wasn't allowed to touch anyone or go to the temple. She was all alone and miserable.

Then she heard about Jesus.

'If I could just touch His clothes,' she thought, 'I know I'd be healed!'

She pushed through the huge crowd around Jesus. People were bumping and pressing everywhere. Finally, she reached out and touched the edge of His coat.

INSTANTLY, she felt it! The bleeding stopped! She was HEALED!

But then Jesus stopped walking. 'Who touched Me?'

His disciples looked confused. 'There are people pushing You from every direction! How can You ask who touched You?'

But Jesus knew this touch was different. Someone had touched Him with FAITH.

The woman was scared. Trembling, she came forward and knelt at Jesus' feet. She told Him everything.

Jesus looked at her with so much love. 'Daughter,' He said, 'your faith has made you well. Go in peace. You are healed!'

Jesus didn't just heal her body. He called her 'Daughter'—she belonged now. She wasn't alone anymore.

Jesus notices when we reach out to Him in faith, even in a crowd. He always has time for us.

25And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse ,

27When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
