Read this verse in depth with cross-references and study notes

David piles up metaphor after metaphor because one image cannot contain the fullness of God's protective power.

The Lord is rock, fortress, deliverer, shield, horn of salvation, and stronghold. Each image reveals a different aspect of God's protection: unchanging stability, impenetrable defense, active rescue, covering from arrows, offensive strength, and secure refuge. In every way we might need protection, God provides it. He is everything we need for every threat we face.

Apply This Today

Meditate on each image of protection today and thank God for being your complete defense in every possible way.

Prayer

Lord, You are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. You are my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I take refuge in You today. Amen.
