He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. ʿĀrōḇ (עָרֹב, "divers sorts of flies") literally means "swarm" or "mixture"—possibly various biting insects. Šāḥat (שָׁחַת, "destroyed") means to ruin or corrupt.
