And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land (δαπανήσαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ πάντα ἐγένετο λιμὸς ἰσχυρὰ, dapanēsantos de autou panta egeneto limos ischyra)—The aorist participle dapanaō (δαπανάω, having spent/squandered) indicates complete depletion.
