Verses 1-6: The Petition of the Remnant. The leaders and people approach Jeremiah, requesting him to pray for them and seek God’s guidance on how they should live and act in their precarious situation. They vow to obey whatever God commands through Jeremiah.
Verses 7-13: God’s Response Through Jeremiah. After ten days, Jeremiah delivers God’s word: if they remain in Judah and obey, God will bless and protect them, even from the feared Babylonian king. God promises mercy and restoration.
Verses 14-22: The Warning Against Fleeing to Egypt. God sternly warns that if they disobey and go to Egypt seeking safety, they will face sword, famine, and pestilence there. Their disobedience will bring judgment, and they will become a curse and reproach, never to see their homeland again. Jeremiah rebukes their deceitfulness and announces the consequences of their rebellion.
