Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war—God issues an ironic summons to the nations. The verb qara (קָרָא, "proclaim") is the same used for announcing festivals or assemblies, but here it announces war. "Prepare war" (Hebrew qaddeshu milchamah, קַדְּשׁוּ מִלְחָמָה) literally means "consecrate/sanctify war." The verb qadash (קָדַשׁ) means to set apart as holy—the same word used for consecrating priests, altars, and offerings.
