Or ever the silver cord be loosed—the allegory shifts from bodily house to fragile objects representing life. The 'silver cord' (חֶבֶל הַכֶּסֶף) is a precious, delicate thread holding something valuable. Its loosing (breaking) represents death's severance of life.
