About the Book of Micah

Micah emerges as one of the Old Testament's most compelling advocates for justice, a prophet hailing from the rural town of Moresheth who boldly confronted the corrupt power centers of Judah's cities with God's word. Living at the same time as Isaiah, Micah experienced firsthand the turbulent events of his era—the destruction of Samaria, Assyrian military campaigns, and the moral collapse among Judah's leaders. Unlike Isaiah, who ministered within Jerusalem's royal court, Micah’s rural background gave him a unique perspective on how the wealthy and influential oppressed the common people. His proclamation is clear and uncompromising: outward religious acts are meaningless without justice, and God calls for a life marked by humility and faithfulness to Him. Those in authority who exploit the poor, prophets who prophesy for personal gain, and priests who teach for profit are all subject to God's severe judgment.
