About the Book of Ezra

The book of Ezra presents one of the Bible’s most significant historical accounts—the return of the Israelites from Babylonian captivity and the subsequent reconstruction of the temple in Jerusalem. After seventy years of exile, exactly as foretold by Jeremiah, God moved the heart of Cyrus, the Persian king, to authorize the Jewish people’s return to their homeland and the rebuilding of the LORD’s sanctuary. This narrative powerfully affirms that God’s promises are unfailing, that His sovereign hand governs even foreign empires, and that His divine plan for His people endures beyond severe judgment.
